Filter for Good I

Client

In November 2023, I launched the "Filter for Good I" on TikTok, a unique augmented reality filter designed to support humanitarian efforts in Gaza. This project leveraged TikTok's Effect Creator Rewards program, enabling me to earn money for each unique video made with the filter, with plans to donate all earnings to charitable organizations aiding Gaza.

This effect uses 2D interactive drawing elements and 3D objects, incorporated into an interactive game where users navigate a watermelon slice along a winding path to collect seeds, symbolizing the effort and engagement in supporting the cause. The choice of a watermelon was strategic, utilizing the colors of the Palestinian flag—red, black, green, and white—to signify solidarity with Palestinian identity, which has historical roots dating back to the Six-Day War in 1967. This symbolic choice resonated deeply on social media, particularly in light of restrictions on displaying the Palestinian flag in certain territories. The filter quickly gained traction, amassing over 6.5 million interactions within the first week of its launch, demonstrating the powerful blend of cultural symbolism and social media engagement to mobilize support.

The success of the filter was profound, reaching the maximum potential reward of $14,000 in just 10 days, all of which was used for donations. $7000 was donated to Doctors Without Borders, and the other $7000 was used to purchase over 200 e-Sims that allow the people of Palestine to stay connected to the world and their families. The rapid engagement highlighted the community's readiness to support meaningful causes through innovative digital interactions. The effectiveness of this project showcased how AR technology and social media can be harnessed for social impact, setting a benchmark for future digital activism campaigns.
