Coachella x Global Inheritance

The TRASHed Art of Recycling initiative transforms everyday recycling bins into imaginative and unique art pieces. In February 2024, I was selected by Global Inheritance for the third year in a row to redesign a recycling bin for Coachella as part of their Art of Recycling program. Inspired by Victoria Monet, one of the festival’s performers, I created a piece titled “Jagu(AR).” This design featured a blend of lush jungle elements and an augmented reality component.

The theme “Jagu(AR)” draws inspiration from Victoria Monet and her album “Jaguar,” incorporating lush jungle elements and vibrant disco motifs. The design blends these influences to create a dynamic and captivating visual experience. The bin itself features intricate artwork with a mix of jungle foliage and disco aesthetics, capturing the essence of Victoria Monet’s style. To enhance the interactivity and accessibility of the project, I developed an augmented reality (AR) component available on both TikTok and Instagram. The AR effect allows users to align a virtual bin with the physical bin in real life. Once aligned, the user taps “set,” which anchors the World AR experience. This immersive experience begins with a jaguar scratch animation across the screen, signaling the transition into the jungle environment.

The AR effect transforms the user’s surroundings into a vibrant jungle scene, complete with a warm color LUT and 3D objects such as plants, trees, and multiple jaguars and leopards moving around the space. This digital layer adds depth and interactivity to the physical artwork, allowing festival-goers to engage with the “Jagu(AR)” theme in a novel and immersive way; aiming to capture the Victoria Monet album, Jaguar's energy and essence through both physical and digital mediums.
