An artist-driven initiative, TRASHed Art of Recycling creates imaginative and one-of-a-kind art pieces out of everyday recycling bins. In February 2022, I was chosen by Global Inheritance to redesign a recycling bin for Coachella as part of their Art of Recycling program. My theme was "Treat the Earth with Kindness," a nod to Harry Styles, and featured an augmented reality filter component.

Inspired by Harry Styles, one of Coachella's headlining performers, I chose the theme "Treat the Earth with Kindness" – a play on his song, "Treat People with Kindness." This project involved creatively transforming a standard recycling bin. I first started by digitally illustrating the concept on Procreate, then bringing that to the physical medium with exterior and acrylic paints. I also integrated an augmented reality feature developed with Meta Spark. The AR component added a digital layer to the physical art piece, allowing festival-goers to engage interactively with the bin by scanning QR codes placed on the sides.

This blend of physical art and digital technology served to promote recycling in an innovative way. By scanning the bin, users could access an AR filter that further emphasized the theme of environmental kindness, enhancing the message and the user's connection to the artwork. The project was a vivid demonstration of how art and technology can come together to promote sustainability and environmental consciousness at major events. It not only added a unique visual element to Coachella and its sustainability partner, but also helped in spreading a powerful message.
